Adding and Managing Item Alerts

Circulators may add and manage Item Alerts from the Item Status page. Item Alerts may be permanent or temporary. When adding new alerts, staff may select an Alert Type to determine what transactions will trigger the alert to appear.


Item Alerts are pop-up messages that alert staff to information or actions they should take. Item Alerts may be triggered by specific actions in the staff client. Most alerts will be applied to Normal checkin and Normal checkout. Other types include:

  • Normal renewal
  • Normal checkout at circ lib
  • Normal checkin at circ lib
  • Normal renewal at circ lib
  • Normal checkout at owning lib
  • Normal checkin at owning lib
  • Normal renewal at owning lib
  • Checkin of lost copy
  • Checkin of missing copy
  • Checkin of lost-and-paid copy
  • Checkin of damaged copy
  • Checkin of claims-returned copy
  • Checkin of long overdue copy
  • Checkin of claims-never-checked-out copy
  • Checkout of lost copy
  • Checkout of missing copy
  • Checkout of lost-and-paid copy
  • Checkout of damaged copy
  • Checkout of claims-returned copy
  • Checkout of long overdue copy
  • Checkout of claims-never-checked-out copy
Staff can find the buttons to add or manage Item Alerts at the bottom of the far left column on the Item Status screen. Staff can also make these changes in the Holdings Editor screen (see the Items Alerts page in the Item Cataloging Knowledge Book). 

Adding Item Alerts from the Item Status Screen

  1. Open the Detail View of the item to which an alert will be added.
  2. At the bottom right, click the "Add" button in the Item Alert row.
  3. Select the Alert Type from the drop-down menu.
  4. Type the text for the Alert in the Alert Note box.
  5. If the Alert only needs to appear once, check the "Temporary" box.
  6. Click the "Add New" button.
  7. Click the "Apply Changes" button.

Managing Item Alerts from the Item Status Screen

  1. Open the Detail View of the item to which an alert will be added.
  2. At the bottom right, click the "Manage" button in the Item Alert row.
  3. If the Alert Type needs to be changed, select the new type from the drop-down menu.
  4. Edit the text for the Alert in the Alert Note box.
  5. Click the "Apply Changes" button.

 

 Removing Existing Item Alerts

  1. Open the Detail View of the item to which an alert will be added.
  2. At the bottom right, click the "Manage" button in the Item Alert row.
  3. Click the "Remove" link.
  4. Click the "Apply Changes" button.
