1.2. 2024 Upgrade to Evergreen 3.13.5

Last Updated 11/26/2024

Permissions

In Evergreen 3.11, some permission restrictions weren't properly limiting item edits to Item Catalogers like they should have been. We've had a few tickets where we've had to refer staff to taking the Item Cataloger assessment to continue being able to perform tasks they'd grown accustomed to being able to do. We've also had to add some permissions for the Acquisitions module.

Known Issues/Bugs

How to “Add Heat” To A Bug

Reports

Bug 2077745

Issue: From the Clone Report, Edit Report, or View Report interface, if you click the browser's "Back" button to go back to the Reports folder, then highlight a report and open the Actions menu again, the only options listed will be Clone Report, Output List, and View Report.  To get Delete Selected, Edit Report, and Move Select back, you have to refresh the folder in some capacity (go out and back in, refresh the page, etc.).

Workaround: Use the Legacy reporter.  You can access the Legacy reporter using the link below:

https://(your library).nccardinal.org/eg/staff/reporter/full

You can replace (your library) name in the beginning of the URL.

Cataloging

Bug 2084929

Issue: If you make a change in the fixed fields or the LDR field in the Enhanced MARC Editor, the counter next to the Undo button will increase.  However, when you click the Undo button, it will not actually undo the change/s you made, but the counter will still go down with each click.  Both the Undo and Redo buttons work when you make a change to any of the numbered fields in the record (including any changes you make in the =008 field itself).

Bug 2073561

Issue: The "Audience" search field in the OPAC and staff catalog is pulling everything from position 22 in the =008 fields of the MARC records.  This is resulting in a large number of erroneous audience filters.

Bug 2083026

Issue: In the new version of the Enhanced MARC Editor in 3.13.3, right clicking in the fixed field "Ills" brings up both your standard Windows right click menu with "Cut, Copy, Paste, etc." and a menu for terms to enter into the field.  However, you cannot actually select any of the terms.  If you click on one, the menu disappears, but nothing is entered into the fixed field. You see this same behavior with the "Cont" fixed field. The other fixed fields all appear to work as intended.

Bug 2086690

Issue: If you use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+D) to add a new subfield in the Enhanced MARC Editor, it actually adds two new blank subfields instead of only one.

Bug 2086694

Issue: In the Enhanced MARC Editor, if you use the keyboard shortcut to add a new field, two duplicate 999 fields are added instead of just one.  This appears to be mainly an issue with the keyboard shortcut, because if you click the + button instead, it adds only a single 999 field.

Bug 2086699

Issue: This only seems to happen sporadically, but in the Enhanced MARC Editor if you attempt to change the "ELvl" fixed field, the changes may not save for you.

Other Staff Interfaces

Bug 2086739

Issue: In the patron search interface, if you begin typing a patron's name before the page fully loads (specifically, before the "Mailing:Street 1", "Created On", "Home Library", etc., columns appear beneath the search fields), the search will automatically perform after only typing 1-3 letters.

Workaround: If you wait until after the page has completely finished loading before beginning your search, then a search will not be performed until you manually click the Search button after typing in the patron's information.

Bug 2086724

Issue: The Pickup Library field in the Holds Pull List page currently defaults to blank.  For some libraries, this does not appear to be an issue, as the holds list will still populate regardless.  For other libraries, however, the holds list will not populate.

Workaround: Select CARDINAL from the Pickup Library dropdown list in order for the holds list to populate.

Bug 2083039

Issue: In the staff catalog, Library Groups and Shelving Location Groups are listed as a separate search field from Search in Library, but in the OPAC, they are listed in the Library search field. This is a wishlist request to either have these search fields separated in the OPAC, as well, or to otherwise be given the option to choose whether to separate them out or to keep them together in both the staff catalog and the OPAC.

Bug 2083043

Issue: In the staff catalog, if you select a shelving location group and choose a specific library in the Search in Library field, you will receive records in the results with no items belonging to that library attached.

To test this:

1) Create a shelving location group for a specific library (e.g. Carteret)

2) In the staff catalog, select the shelving location group

3) Select Carteret in the Search in Library field

4) Perform search

5) Results will include records with 0 items owned by Carteret (note that this is referring to physical materials, not electronic resource records)

This does not appear to happen in the OPAC. You only receive results with records that have the library's items attached.

Bug 1954937

Issue: A Hold Position of "1" displays for the Queue Position found in the Open Holds Request  section of the patron account. A hold position different from"1" displays when viewing the Queue Position found in the View Holds section of the Bibliographic Record.

Bug 2087870

Issue: Transit Source and Transit Destination in the patron holds interface only display the library ID rather than the library name or shortname. Additionally, the circulating and owning libraries are not listed as options for columns.

Acquisitions

Bug 2086786

Issue: Users adding funds to direct charges in Invoices can only select funds for the branch of their workstation. Patch is being tested.

Bug 2086738

Issue: when Branch name or Shelving Location name are very long, shelving location shows up blank in purchase orders.

Workaround: check the worksheet to make sure a shelving location is actually attached to the copies in your line item. If the shelving location shows up in the worksheet, it will attach as expected to the catalog record.

Resolved Issues/Bugs

Bug 2084348

Issue: If you use the Clear Form button in the new Angular Z39.50 interface, not only the search form is cleared, but also the Services and Credentials.  However, it leaves all of the Search Query fields intact. If you navigate away from the Z39.50 interface and return to it, and all of the previously selected Services and Credentials are checked again, and the Search Query fields are still present as before. If you perform a search after clicking Clear Form, but before navigating away from Z39.50 (so when the Services and Credentials have been unchecked), the search will go through as normal, like you still have those same Services and Credentials selected.

Bug 1909585

Issue: Now when you download a CSV file of a list from your account in the OPAC, it will include the subfields $n and $p from the =245 field.

Bug 2085646

Issue: A patch has been rolled out to Production that resolves this issue.  You may need to clear your cache first, but now the option to Cancel Holds from the Hold Shelf should no longer be grayed out in the Actions menu.

Bug 2078501

Issue: Funds must be included for Direct Charges on invoices. This primarily impacts shipping. There is a new option for "Non-prorated Shipping" available. Please use that charge type and apply a fund. If a fund can't be added, submit a ticket and we will a create a fund for this purpose.

Bug 2084930

Issue: A patch has been rolled out to Production that resolves this issue.  Now when you enter a date into the Date1 and Date2 fields in the Enhanced MARC Editor, extra spaces are no longer added with each digit.

Bug 2085831

Issue: In the Holdings view tab, by default the cells are showing up with word wrap turned off. There is a drop down arrow next to the action menu to the top right of the grid. The mouseover text goes from "Allow cell contents to wrap" to "Truncate cell contents to one line" That however is not what it actually does. The only difference is that it adds grid lines but the cells do not truncate to one line. This means that if your window is compact, table cells may be one character per line.

Workaround: Set column widths in grid editor.

Bug 2087562

Issue: Bad joins in reports. We were seeing issues where data sources would be incorrectly selected, disconnecting the data source from its core source. This was evident from broken paths appearing in the field. This error stemmed from an underlying problem with the data structure, called Tree, that represented the way tables in the database are connected. Data sources in the Tree, called Nodes, became unaware of their position in the Tree due to a fault in how they were added. This affected other pages that used that same Tree data structure such as the permission group page and org unit page. We applied a patch that fixed the structure of the tree, allowing data sources to be connected once again. Next, we found an issue wherein fields with labels were using that label to access the database rather than the actual name as it appears in the schema. We've applied a patch to address that issue as well. Then, we found a new issue wherein tables connected virtually ie. not actually linked in the database but rather linked logically, are no longer available to the reporter.

Workaround: Use the Legacy reporter.  You can access the Legacy reporter using the link below:

https://(your library).nccardinal.org/eg/staff/reporter/full

You can replace (your library) name in the beginning of the URL.

NC Cardinal Evergreen Fall Upgrade

November 1 - 3, 2024

Current Version: 3.11.1

Target Version: 3.13.5

During the weekend of November 1st - 3rd, NC Cardinal will be having our annual Evergreen software upgrade.  The process will begin the night of November 1st and proceed through Sunday, November 3rd.  During this time, our Evergreen catalog will be completely offline.

During this process, any libraries that are open will need to use the Offline mode.  Detailed instructions, including a video on Offline Mode can be found in our Knowledge Books.

During the upgrade weekend, users will still be able to authenticate to electronic resources because we'll be pointing our SIP authentication server at a backup copy of our database, but since our real database will be down, this means self check out machines should not be used this weekend.

We will be upgrading from Evergreen version 3.11.1 to version 3.13.5.  The full list of changes can be found in the release notes below.
