Hopeless Holds in Evergreen Video and Instructions

The instructions for using the Hopeless Holds reports, as created and presented in the webinar by Lise Keppler (Forsyth County Public Library), are attached as a pdf to this page.

This process generates a list of holds on bibliographic records that no longer have copies eligible to fill the holds, using two Evergreen reports combined in MS Excel using the VLOOKUP function. Metarecord holds are ignored since they may be filled with items from more than one bibliographic record.

Utilizing this process, staff may be able to transfer patron holds to other bibliographic records that have viable copies or catalogers may be able to merge duplicate bibliographic records. Libraries may also consider purchasing requested items if that fits their collection development goals. If staff are unable to find or replace the items to fill patron holds, they can notify the patron and cancel the hold (in accordance with local policies and procedures).
